Thanksgiving: Differentiated close reading for 4th or 5th graders!
Teach your students about the real Thanksgiving through close reading of passages and the original firsthand accounts. Students will learn about the real people, what they did, and even the real food that they ate through reading these passages about the feast of 1621. They will begin to see how the holiday may be viewed by more than one culture. With a focus on prior misconceptions, students may recognize how bias can creep into ones assumptions.
This product includes three articles. Each article has two versions for easy differentiation. The version A articles are written at a Lexile level less than 690 (for students reading below grade level). The version B articles are written at a Lexile level between 790-810 (meeting 4th and 5th grade reading level range). You can choose the level you feel is most appropriate for your students.
Both sets of passages seamlessly use the same close reading and text dependent response pages (three pages of questions per passage).
