This activity is so fun! It’s a perfect way for students to get in the Thanksgiving spirit, while practicing their basic money skills. The Promethean Flip Chart starts out with secret Thanksgiving items hidden in Trader Joe’s bags. As the students pull out these items (with attached price tags) they must figure out what the change should be when the item is purchased. Each page is classified by type of food to help ELLs (main course, etc). Each page also includes adjustable, color-coded unit bars that are based on the Singapore Math model for unit bars. Directions and notes are on the notes section of the browser. The flipchart does get progressively harder, starting with whole dollars and ending by making more complicated change. My students love this activity!
This flipchart is loaded into a file that has both the Promethean Board version and the Interactive Whiteboard Compatibility version.
