Laugh with your students, build literacy skills, and develop fluency and expression! You can provide a creative and cooperative homeside connection, AND study two levels of emergent readers in this 40 page packet! "Where Is My Turkey?" (level C-D) contains two lines of text on a page, and the sight words where, is, my, the, said, not, a, an. "Did You See My Turkey?" (level A-B) contains one line of text, and the sight words did, you, see, my, I, am, not. There is an option for students to provide the ending to the story. Tie this into your math lessons by completing a graph of your students' favorite turkey disguise from the book! In addition to (or instead of) the home project, use the turkey templates during learning centers to allow children to create their own disguises. (We've been amazed at the creations our children have come up with!)
The black and white versions of the story are formatted for quick, no-fuss assembly. You will have two books from printing the complete story once. (The top and bottom of each page are the same.) Use the color version for your classroom whiteboard!
These are stories that you'll enjoy reading over and over again with your students, and they will have fun while building fluency and expression!
The book provides a terrific set-up for a Disguise-a-Turkey project! You'll help build an understanding of the difference between "decoration" and "disguise" as you point out examples in the text.
Our children have had so much fun decorating turkeys at home and at school! The turkey template can be quickly reproduced and put into a classroom art center.
Visit our store to see "Where Is Santa?" a set of two emergent readers, and a "Disguise Santa" project for the holidays. We also have a disguise bundle...including the Easter Bunny!
