The students will practice text dependent questions, authors purpose, recount fables, comparing and contrasting, illustrations, moral of the story, context clues, and character traits in this ENGAGING Thanksgiving Feast challenge.
The students will go through a series of six challenges. Each challenge will require them to complete a reading activity, which involves reading and applying a skill. Each activity will earn them a food for their feast. Once completing the six challenges and earning their feast!
This feast can be a food feast, a moving with popcorn, making pumpkin pie in a cup, or just fun Thanksgiving games!
Why will these lessons help your students grow?
Engagement- Students will be engaged from the beginning to the end of the challenges. They won't even realize how hard they are working and how much they are learning about hard skills!
Rigor- These challenges are HIGH LEVEL and make students really think about the text. They also work on many reading skills.
Low Prep- You can just print and do the challenge or you can go all out and transform your room! It truly is up to you! This challenge is also done all on SCRAP paper! So, no copying for you!

The students read four paragraphs and determine what the author’s purpose was for writing the paragraph. They must explain this in a full sentence and description.
The students will read two informational paragraphs on Thanksgiving and write their own paragraph comparing and contrasting the two.
The students will read a fable. They will have to recount the story by drawing an image to show what happened, and then they will determine the moral.
The students will read a story and answer questions about the character. Then, they will create their own character with the given traits, feelings, and motivations.
Students will look at two stories with illustrations and answer questions. Then, they will create their own illustration to go with the final story.
The students will use context clues to solve a riddle.
The students will earn a food after each challenge to fill their feast plate! You can do this with the paper food you print off or real food!
I loved doing mini-transformations each month that would engage my kiddos, but I wanted it to be easy to prep. I also wanted the challenge to be very rigorous, so that my students were working very hard during a time that they were also engaged. Lastly, I wanted to make sure we were reviewing and assessing skills monthly. That is where these challenges came into play. Now each month we practice skills, I get a small assessment in, we are SO engaged, we make memories, and we challenges ourselves! I hope you can too!
