A card game to help English learners practice the names of typical Thanksgiving dishes. The repetitive questioning and food identification in the game helps them to feel secure in asking for food in real life situations.
Game play follows the typical "Go Fish" rules and also involves using the phrase, ”Would you please pass me the ____?” They get to work on their English and their table manners at the same time—a win!
Simply print, laminate, cut out and go for a game that they will willingly play again and again. (Pro tip: have the kids cut out the cards. It saves you time and they feel invested in the game because they helped make it.)
This game was originally made to help my own primarily Danish speaking children know how to ask for all of the ”weird but yummy” food that shows up at Grandma’s house on Thanksgiving. They highly recommend it!
Food included in the game
- apple pie
- pumpkin pie
- sweet potatoes
- mashed potatoes
- green beans
- apple cider
