This Thanksgiving math product will provide your students with plenty of fraction problem solving practice as they determine how many feathers should be colored according to a fraction color code. Each turkey has 20 blank feathers, so students will be determining equivalent fractions with denominators of 2,3, 5, 10, and 20, then, using 20/20 as the sum, determine fractional addends that represent the number of feathers in each color.
Ten worksheets are included, and they vary in difficulty from two addends with like denominators to four addends with four different denominators. You can check the preview to see examples. An answer key is also included. Page 1 of this packet includes instructions about how to complete each page, but the other pages have no instructions to allow for more work space. Be sure students understand how to complete each page using those instructions as necessary
If students have been learning about fractions as part of ONE WHOLE, they will need explicit instruction on fractions as part of a group of like items (which becomes the “one whole”) prior to completing these activities. These activities are representative of many “real life” fraction problem solving situations, and will help solidify your students’ understanding of how fractions are used in everyday life. Depending on your students’ experience working with fractions, the activities in this product may either be material used for direct instruction or independent practice in a math center.
