Gobble up some Thanksgiving fun with these 5 math and literacy games, which are perfect for RTI instruction, small groups, whole groups, early finishers or center activites!
Mayflower ABC’s - Help the pilgrims find the Mayflower! Choose a card from the pile. If you can read it correctly, roll the die and move forward that many spaces. If you cannot, stay on your space. The first person to reach the Mayflower wins! ** Includes uppercase and lowercase letters! This game can be used for letter or sound identification. **
Turkey Word Hunt - Help the Native Americans find the turkey! Choose a card from the pile. If you can read it correctly, roll the die and move forward that many spaces. If you cannot, stay on your space. The first person to reach the turkey wins! ** Includes Dolch Lists 1-4, color and number words, and an editable page. Also includes an alternate game board. Add your own words, numbers, addition or subtraction problems, or whatever you choose! **
Catch the Turkey - Randomly place all of the CVC word cards, uppercase letter cards, or lowercase letter cards inside a pocket chart and hide the turkey behind one card. To play, choose a card, and either identify the letter or sound, or stretch out the word. If you can read it correctly, look behind the Native American to find the turkey. The first person to find the turkey wins! ** Includes uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and CVC words. **
Gobble! - To play, place the cards upside down in a pile or inside a cup. The first player chooses a card and reads the number. If he/she identifies the number correctly, he/she may keep the card. If not, he/she places the card back inside the cup or on the bottom of the pile. Play continues until you say stop. Players count their cards, and the person with the most cards wins. For added fun, use the “Gooble” card! This card can be used to end the game, put a card back, lose a turn, take a card from another player, etc. ** Includes numbers 0-30. **
Thanksgiving Bump - Roll 1 die and place your cube on that number; or roll 2 dice, add them together and place your cube on that sum. If another player's cube is on that number, you can BUMP it off. If your own cube is on that number you can attach your two cubes together and “freeze” that spot/number. It now counts as yours! Continue play until all the numbers have been “frozen.” Count the pilgrim hats each player has frozen. The player with the most hats wins!
