This Thanksgiving themed card game aims to help children work on /f v s z/ sounds in word initial position.
- Instructions for preparation and game play of ‘Turkey Trouble’
- 3 x word lists per sound (18 words in total per sound)
- Playing cards for each word
- Additional game play cards, e.g. miss a turn have been included for if you wish to include these in the “Turkey Trouble” game or if you wish to play a different card game of your choosing.
Objective of the game:
Be the first player to collect all 6 cards on your word list.
Game Play - “Turkey Trouble”:
Give each child a word list for their sound.
Shuffle all of the playing cards of the sounds you’re working on (don’t include the additional game play cards yet) and deal each player 5 playing cards. The remaining sound cards and additional game play cards get shuffled and go in a pile in the center, forming the ‘deck’.
The youngest player starts by asking the player to their left for a card they need from their list. If this player has that card, they must hand it over. If they don’t have it, the player asking for the card must pick a card up from the deck. (There is no limit to how many cards a player can have in their hands). If they pick up a game play card they follow that instruction- they either immediately take another turn, or have to miss their next turn.
Play continues until a player gains all 6 cards from their list.
