A glyph conveys information in picture form. With this resource, students will express their thoughts about Thanksgiving with a turkey craft, survey, data sheet, and writing prompt.
First students will complete the Turkey Glyph Survey and use their answers to choose the appropriate body parts for their turkey.
Direct students to cut out the correct turkey shapes and body parts using their survey results as a guide. They will use the feather stencils to cut out the appropriate type, number, and color feathers according to their survey answers.
Once the turkeys are assembled, invite students to interpret the turkey glyphs together. They can tally, count, and graph the results on their Data Sheets. Model how to create a bar graph so they can design their own using the class glyphs.
Included in this resource is a writing prompt encouraging students to write a persuasive letter convincing a family not to eat turkey for Thanksgiving. Students can have fun and get creative in their responses as turkeys about to be eaten.
All sheets are available in both color and black and white.
