At the end of this lesson, students are expected to answer the following questions:
DOK 1: In your own words describe what Thanksgiving is?
DOK 2: List and Describe five things that surprised you about the history of Thanksgiving?
DOK 3: Compare and contrast how your family celebrates Thanksgiving in comparison to the first Thanksgiving.
DOK 4: Using information from the videos, describe what we can do as a present-day society to promote equality and cultural appreciation.
Students will also be challenged to complete two journal activities that will challenge students to compare & contrast and use their background knowledge to answer questions about Thanksgiving and how it relates to their lives.
This lesson can also be used as a substitute or review activity. All lessons have been tested in classrooms and teachers have had success! This is also a perfect lesson for any educator looking for ways to get their students actively using different types of resources to educate themselves.
