Thanksgiving: The Language of Thanksgiving
This resource includes:
-- a two-page reading passage with brief references to the origins of the English language, the origins of American Thanksgiving, and the origins of words associated with the holiday. There is an emphasis in the passages on the origins of words associated with Thanksgiving food;
--a page of questions (assessing comprehension as well as expressing opinions while citing evidence);
-- a post-reading vocabulary page of four words from each passage which could alternatively be done by the students before they read;
--a list of 34 Thanksgiving words is included to help students choose a word to research for the “word origin challenge” at the bottom of the question page.
