Students will match letter tiles to an illustrated task card's label that names the picture on the card. They will then use the letter tiles from the word they just spelled to make other 6, 5, 4, 3, or 2 letter words in the boxes provided on the task card.
The holidays come and go....and so do the holiday words, usually.
Here's something to help make those holiday words "stick" so that they will be recognizable, readable, and spellable when the season comes around again!
Meant to be used as workmats for a center, but can also be used as a worksheet "manipulative"(cut and paste). 11 workmats feature Thanksgiving words such as thankful, Pilgrims, Indians, cornucopia, Mayflower, turkey, etc.
Workmats have letter tile blank squares, an illustration representing the featured word, and the word itself. Children will fill the blank squares with the letter tiles to spell the featured word.
The plastic letter tiles can be purchased through Amazon or at your local dollar store. If you don't want to do that, this product provides you with 2 pages of the paper letter tiles needed.Just print out on cardstock.
After the words are duplicated with tiles, the student is prompted to make other words using the same letters that were in the featured word. There are blank squares on each mat for that, too.
Each mat has a word list(answers) that goes with this part of the activity.
More pages give the child an opportunity to trace and write the featured words.
A nice thing about this package is that the tasks can be done independently or with a "partner". Older children can get involved as well, especially for the "building new words" part where the younger child may need some help.
