Developmentally appropriate literacy centers for the preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom! This resource is perfect for all developmental and cognitive levels of early childhood. The centers are fun, engaging, and offer challenges and reinforcement of basic skills.
This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate Vocabulary centers for the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered.
Level 1: Thanksgiving Vocabulary Matching
This beginning level will help students notice the similar ending sounds of words. As they say each word on the picture card, they will look at the cards to match and say each of those words too. Listening to themselves make the sounds and listening to teachers repeat the words will help them learn which sounds rhyme and which do not. It is a fantastic way to go slowly and really emphasize the ending sounds of words the kids hear and notice what is similar and what is different.
Level 2: What Belongs to Me? Thanksgiving Vocabulary Sort
This center activity builds on the matching activity. Say the pair of words on each picture card. They decide if the words rhyme or if they don’t rhyme. Picture cards are placed on the proper mat. Game is played until all cards are placed on either the “Rhyme” or “Not a Rhyme” mat.
Level 3: Thanksgiving Noun & Verb Sort
This activity builds on the first two, but adds the element of finding MORE rhyming words. Each Mat has a anchor word for the rhyming family. Each anchor word has 2-4 words in the same rhyming family. Students are challenged to find all the words in the represented rhyming families.
