A variety of literacy activities that can be used in whole group, small group, centers, or independently.
Beginning Sound Cut and Match: Can be used for a center, independent practice, or assessment. Introduce the names of each picture: turkey, Indian, pilgrim, corn, and mayflower. Have students cut and glue the correct beginning sound letter.
We Are Thankful Class Book: Have students write and draw what they are thankful for. These can be assembled together as a book or displayed individually!
Five Little Turkeys Poem: Use the poem to practice fluency, as a reader’s theater, or as dramatic play. Have students go on letter/word hunts and circle specific letters/words.
Thanksgiving Bingo: Make several copies and write in letters. Can be used in small groups, centers, or as a whole group activity.
Thanksgiving Syllable Sort: Can be used for a center, independent practice, or assessment. Introduce the names of each picture: pumpkin, corn, pilgrim, mayflower, hat, turkey, pie, Indian. Have students cut and glue the correct picture under the number of syllables.
Thanksgiving Emergent Reader: Print the book in color (or in grayscale to have the children color the pictures). Cut in half and staple. The book is created using simple, predictable texts to reinforce print awareness and sight word fluency.
