Detailed Teacher Notes
I love this unit because it is full of easy to use, motivating Thanksgiving activities…but underneath it all, it is a set of academic resources which cover many standards!
I really like the passages, which are the heart of this set. I enjoyed researching them and learned some really interesting things that were new to me. I truly think that these unique topics will be ones that will keep your students engaged.
The Wild Turkeys vs. Bald Eagles persuasive writing activity is one that will ask your kids to use higher level thinking skills. Not an easy task, but one that will hopefully generate some really good opinion pieces, whether it is one paragraph or five paragraphs long.
Poetry is always a great way to incorporate writing throughout the year. The two acrostic poems are lots of fun. The number poem is an open-ended poem and can be either a countdown or a count up from 1 – 10 or 10 – 1. Kids brainstorm phrases to go with each number. Easy and everyone can be successful with this!
This is a wonderful but busy season for all of us. I hope that these materials are helpful in your classroom and help your November go a little bit more smoothly!
