This product is a fun and engaging Thanksgiving themed math game based on the Escape Room attractions that can be found across the world. For this game, your students will take on the role of the turkey. They will be trapped in a house and will need to escape the chef before it is too late. They will use their mathematical skills to distract and sabotage the chef while also following their escape route through the chef’s house. The object is to find the codes to “escape” four different rooms of the house with the final escape being out the front door to freedom!
In order to be successful, teams will need to use good communication, logic, attention to detail, cooperation and their math skills.
This particular Escape Room focuses on standards that are taught in fourth grade.
The following skills are reviewed during the game:
Converting hours to minutes
Rounding to the nearest thousand
Calculating area and perimeter
Solving equations with an unknown variable
If you work with a small group on math skills during intervention time, this game would be a fun game to play together, and would allow you to review needed skills in a fun and motivating way.
This Escape Room activity requires the use of technology because students will need to be able to access Google Forms and their Google Drives. The use of the Google Form reduces the amount of preparation and printing for the teacher. It also will only progress to the next room if the correct code is entered.
Students will be divided into teams where the object is for their team to escape before time is up. I recommend 45-60 minutes, but you can vary the time based on the needs of your class.
