Developmentally appropriate math centers for the preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom! This resource is perfect for all developmental and cognitive levels of early childhood. The centers are fun, engaging, and offer challenges and reinforcement of basic skills.
This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate Numeral Identification and Counting centers for the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered.
Level 1: Thanksgiving Stack & Count 1-5 & 1-10
This beginning level will help students practice making the shapes of numbers, and counting 1-10. Count the pictures and fill in the numeral with Play-doh, beans, buttons, or mini erasers (shown). This is a great way to introduce numeral formation while developing fine motor skills.
Level 2: Thanksgiving Count & Match Cards
This center activity builds on the sorting activity by introducing some more shapes while still exploring the first 5 basic shapes. Again we utilize the same shape turkeys used in the sorting activity and similar pictures as the cards in the first activity. The puzzles are set up so that ALL of the Circles are the same puzzle so that any circle picture will fit. It is the same for all the other shapes included in this activity.
Level 3: Count and Trace 1-10
This activity builds on the first two. In this activity the shapes we are looking for are smaller. We use the same turkey shapes as the previous activities, and similar pictures of real-world objects! We add the bonus of using our pinching fingers to use clothespins to clip and mark the correct shape on each card! This is such a fun activity to assess fine motor skills and knowledge of basic shapes. My class loves these activities!
