Developmentally appropriate math centers for the preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom! This resource is perfect for all developmental and cognitive levels of early childhood. The centers are fun, engaging, and offer challenges and reinforcement of basic skills.
This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate Patterning centers for the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered. There is also 2 levels of position words that can be taught to gather or progressively!
Level 1: Thanksgiving AB Patterns
This beginning level will help students practice making simple patterns using different combinations. Make sure that as you go through each pattern, you SAY the pattern and repeat it many times.
Level 2: Thanksgiving AB, AABB, & ABB Patterns
This center activity builds on the first patterning activity by adding more complex patterns. Go slowly and say each pattern as you begin and demonstrate how to complete the patterns.
Level 3: Thanksgiving ABC Patterns
This activity builds on the first two adding a third element. This pattern will be a challenge, so go slowly at first. Demonstrate how to make an ABC pattern as you begin this activity. Encourage independence, but guide the students as they go.
With each of these activities, a challenge for each level would be to ask the students to use the picture cards to make their own patterns.
Where’s the Turkey? Position Word Game
This activity consists of using small baskets and turkey manipulatives-included. Cards are shown with pictures of one or two turkeys ‘in front of’, ‘behind’, ’next to’, ‘on top of’, etc the basket. Students discover positions words and learn what they mean!
