Activity 1: Thanksgiving Math Art - 2 Versions Students create fun, creative math art drawings. Then they use their math skills to represent their number of squares for each color as a fraction, decimal, and percent. 2 versions are included, 1 with percents and 1 without. Examples are provided.
Activity 2: Thanksgiving Shopping! Let your students experiment with purchasing different food items off the list of groceries and prices that I have provided. You will be amazed at how students love to pretend to be in charge of planning and purchasing food. Have them share their plans for the feast! One of the three scenarios has students trying to spend the most of their $30 budget to get a balance closest to $0.00. There are no right or wrong answers, and kids will love the freedom that Math class rarely provides.
Activity 3: Thanksgiving Word Problems. You can have the students work with a partner, assign it as homework, or leave it for the sub while you take a personal day! The key is included, and these 8 word problems will keep your students on task while stretching their brains just enough. Help Mrs. Mayflower arrange her tables to seat 40 guests. Help Mr. Pilgrim build his turkey coops. Help Mrs. Corn calculate the proper cooking time for her turkey. Kids will love it, and a key is included!
Activity 4: Thanksgiving Number Cube Game! Player 1 rolls all four dice and has 1 minute to use any of the four operations and the four digits showing on the dice to try to get one answer found on his side of the board. If Player 1’s answer is on his side of the board, he colors that shape. If he cannot match an answer, he passes. Player 2 then takes a turn. The first player to color all of the shapes on his side of the board is the winner. When students finish, they can create their own version of the game by choosing their own numbers and writing them on the second page. Two games, minimal teacher preparation, and a fun day for all before Thanksgiving break!
Activity 5: Evaluating Expressions Turkey Number Cube Game - Evaluating Expressions! Students gain valuable practice evaluating expressions. They roll the dice (number cubes) and replace the variables, which are turkeys, with the value that they rolled. Which ever player has the greatest value wins that round. This game also gives students fun practice with the order of operations.
Activity 6: Thanksgiving Color by Number Math - 3 Versions - Thanksgiving themed number color by number worksheets, coloring sheet, and key! Students can work in groups, independently, or enjoy some holiday music in the classroom as they answer math questions & use their corresponding answers to their guides to choosing the correct colors.
