This five-page math project, in a performance task format, is a great way for students in grades 4-6 to use their math skills to solve problems that involve real Thanksgiving Holiday statistics. Your students will calculate the ingredients needed to make a pumpkin pie larger than the current world record-holding pumpkin pie and how many pounds of grain it would take to feed the turkeys their family will eat in a year. We also included some fun questions they can guess or research with answers provided in the key.
Skills students will practice:
•multiplication of whole numbers
•division of whole numbers
The last page is a challenge question that will involve estimation, reasoning, and has multiple approaches for solving.
The level of challenge will vary depending on whether or not you allow them to use a calculator.
This project is ready to print and go. A complete answer key is provided.
