Looking for a fun Thanksgiving activity that kiddos will enjoy while learning at the same time? This is it! In this activity, students work in groups to plan a Thanksgiving dinner for six on a budget. Each group has a different budget, but all have the same meal requirements. Some have plenty of money, others must shop very wisely. Students use store circulars to shop for items, keep a list of all ingredients, and write a reflection on what they learned by completing the activity.
Are you looking for a super decimal math lesson that goes along with the holiday? Students will need to add, subtract, and even multiply decimal numbers to find the total cost of their items as well as the total price when and item is sold by the pound.
I do this activity every year with my 5th graders. It has become one of our fifth grade traditions. The students always say that they can't believe how hard it is to stick to a budget when they want everything they see...hello, real world!!!
I hope you enjoy!
