A great project based learning activity for students to learn budgeting, conversions, adding and subtracting with decimals, multiplying with decimals.
Instructions: Students will create a "Family". They will be given a budget of $100 (or otherwise if you determine). Students must decide what they want to eat at their Thanksgiving meal. Students will have to think about all the ingredients and if there are any overlapping ingredients. They will also need to think about the amount of people they are feeding. They will use local shopping ads to go "shopping". They will have to keep a checking account balance to insure you do not go over your budget. At the end of the project, each family or individual will complete a reflection.
