This meets the common core standards for reading literature in fifth-grade -- specifically:
RL.5.6 – Describe how a narrator’s or speaker’s point of view influences how events are described.
RL.5.4 – Describe the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language such as metaphor and similes.
RL.5.1 – Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
Students must read one passage about Thanksgiving from the perspective of the turkey and one passage about Thanksgiving from the perspective of the farmer eating dinner with his family. There are 10 questions for each passage. Although this is aligned with the fifth-grade common core curriculum it is great for showing how a narrator's point of view influences how events are described for any intermediate (4 - 5) or middle school student.
Includes illustration activity for point of view to accompany each passage.
Both passages are written by me, and the turkey clipart is part of a Thanksgiving clipart collection also available in my store.
