This product is a printable book for an interactive Pilgrim voyage. The book includes an introduction to the voyage page and a page for each station. This voyage consists of 5 stations where my little Pilgrims learn something from the Native Americans after getting to the New World. We started our voyage by leaving our home classroom, dressed in our Pilgrim hats ready for the journey to the other end of the school. When we got to this new land we needed help, so we were glad to meet the Native Americans (AKA our 4th grade reading buddies, this activity can also work by having half the class be Pilgrims and half Native Americans and switching which I have done before, or getting volunteers to run the stations.)
Stations: When the Pilgrims arrive at each station, the Native Americans will read the little paragraph of information in their booklet to explain the importance of their skill. Students will then do a small activity together and fill out the page in their book.
Growing Crops: Students fill little cups with soil and plant lima beans, then fill out the page in their booklet.
Items needed: soil, lima beans, cups, small shovel or cup to scoop soil, watering can/spray bottle, sharpie to write names
Crafts and Jewelry Making: Students make bead bracelets, then fill their booklet page. (we made Thanksgiving story bracelets where each color bead stood for a part of the story.)
Items needed: pipe cleaners, beads of various colors
Fishing and Hunting: Students get to catch a small cup of goldfish, count their fish and fill out their page in their booklet. As they eat their catch, they watch a Brainpop Jr. video about Thanksgiving.
Items needed: goldfish, cups or baggies, Ipad or other device for video
Growing and Cooking Corn: Students talk about the importance of growing and cooking crops like corn and enjoy some popcorn (This year we may even use a mini popcorn machine). They fill out their page and then listen to a “Native American” read a Thanksgiving book.
Items needed: popcorn, cups or baggies, Thanksgiving book
Weaving Blankets: Students will weave some strips of construction paper to create blankets, and then complete their page.
Items needed: precut construction paper, precut strips, glue
