My kids love this one! Have you ever heard of mumming at Thanksgiving? Neither had I until I read this article and your kids will find it so cool! This primary source small group ELA lesson incorporates common core ELA standards and social studies standards. It can be used for whole group or small group instruction. The primary source used in this lesson is from the New York Times letter to the editor published in 1911 that implores parents and citizens to refrain from giving to Thanksgiving “mummers”. Mumming was an early 20th century custom on Thanksgiving in which children dressed in crazy costumes playing pranks soliciting money. Check out the five day lesson in my store!
