What educators are saying

Thanks! My kids enjoyed making the holiday card. They had a bit of trouble with the turkey inside the card assembly, but it was still enjoyable and I'd do it again.

This engaging Thanksgiving lesson and activity includes a reading comprehension passage about the holiday and directions and materials to create a Thanksgiving pop up turkey card. It also includes teacher directions with a link to a demonstration video, an answer key, and a scoring rubric.

Reading Passage - The reading passage explains that Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. It describes how Americans celebrate Thanksgiving and discusses its origins including the "First Thanksgiving" feast shared by the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag people in 1620. It explores how members of the Wampanoag tribe may not view Thanksgiving as a reason to celebrate because of the tragedies that followed the event.

Pop Up Turkey Card- This download includes directions with pictures, a video demonstration, and all templates needed to create a pop up turkey card. Students can then write a Thanksgiving message inside or, perhaps, list some of the things they are thankful for.
