Silly sentences are a fun way to encourage beginning readers to practice word work, and build fluency. This sentence building activity allows students to mix and match sentence parts. Students can pick a subject and predicate to create their silly sentence.
This activity can be used for word work, pocket chart workstation, or put into tubs for students to work on at their desk. Students can work in small groups or independently. They make all of the sentences and then take turns reading them. I suggest printing these on cardstock and laminating so that they may be used over and over.
