Observe Thanksgiving in your Spanish classroom and have your students practice writing at the same time. These simple worksheets combine writing practice with seasonal spirit.
The first worksheet asks students to write sentences about Thanksgiving and provides a word bank with helpful and applicable Spanish verbs like COMER, CELEBRAR, CENAR, and COMPARTIR.
The second worksheet is similar in format but instructs students to write facts about the turkey using adjectives and key words provided in the word bank. This worksheet provides an internet link to turkey fast facts for the teacher.
There is also a small black line picture of a turkey on both sheets that students can color for fun, as a brain break, or as a differentiation tool as students finish writing.
Most importantly, the instructions are generalized enough so that teachers can modify the activities for their unique students and levels. You can specify:
1. That the sentences be in the preterite,
2. That the sentences be written as commands,
3. That the writing tell a story
4. Have students write questions
5. Have students work collaboratively to see who can write the most, etc.
These activities will be helpful additions to your current lessons, they can easily be assigned for homework, and they are ideal for inclusion in your substitute teacher plans.
