Animal Escape: Round to Nearest 100
In this game, all of the animals have escaped from the zoo on Thanksgiving night and are running all around town! Round each animal to the nearest hundred to figure out what street and place they are hiding out at. This is a great sorting game that helps the students round numbers to the nearest hundred. Aligns with 3.NBT.1 :)
Build Turkeys: Patterns Game
Students get to build a turkey while playing a math game at the same time! This games helps third graders identify multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction patterns when given a function table. They have to figure out what the rule is to the pattern. This aligns with 3.OA.9 :)
QR Codes: Multiplication and Division Word Problems
Three messages included! Students solve the multiplication or division word problem on each card to figure out the answer. Then, they scan the QR code on the card to figure out the "secret letter". They put the "secret letter" on the answer on the mystery phrase page. When all cards are solved, it will spell out a Thanksgiving themed mystery phrase! Aligns with 3.OA.3 :)
Thanksgiving Logic Puzzles: Missing Factors
This activity is HUGE! It is filled with 20 multiplication and division puzzles where students have to figure out the missing factors, quotients, and products in each brain teaser. These logic puzzles are perfect for the Thanksgiving season. There are ten specifically designed for multiplication and ten specifically designed for division. Aligns with 3.OA.4 and 3.OA.6 :)
Line Them Up: Add and Subtract
Students play in teams to line up addition and subtraction equations as quickly as possible to win the game. Both teams are given a "start" card that has a Thanksgiving themed addition or subtraction problem on it. Once students figure out the answer, they line that card up under the "start card". Students keep lining up the cards until they reach the finish! Each team has the same questions, but the questions have been given in a different order to avoid peeking eyes from other teams. Aligns with 3.NBT.2 :)
Food Sort: Round Nearest Ten
Third graders have to round each Thanksgiving food to the nearest ten based on weight in this game. They do this so they can place the Thanksgiving food in the correct basket based on each food’s weight. This is a great game to help students practice rounding numbers to the nearest ten within 1000. Aligns with 3.NBT.1 :)
Thanksgiving Dinner: Geometry Game
This game is used to practice identifying and describing 2D geometric shapes during the Thanksgiving season. Students practice identifying and describing circles, polygons, triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombi, trapezoids, quadrilaterals, parallelograms, diamonds, pentagons, octagons, and hexagons. This game is flexible and students should be able to use whatever method you prefer them to use to solve when playing this game. It's a 2-4 person game where students try to be the first person to fill up their plate for Thanksgiving dinner. Each time a student answers a game card question, they get to take a piece of food to put on their plate. There are also chance cards in the deck that may help a student or put them back a few paces during the game! My students LOVE this game at Thanksgiving each year and enjoy picking out which "foods they will eat" from the middle. The best part is--the students have no idea how much they are learning! This game is a great practice or review game to see who understands a concept you are teaching and who is still struggling with the material. It comes with 48 questions on game cards, 24 chance cards, and an answer key!
Thanksgiving Fact Families
There are 32 cards included. On each card, a factor or product is missing. There are multiplication and division fact family trees on each card that are Thanksgiving themed. Students write in the correct number to complete each fact family. Aligns with 3.OA.4 and 3.OA.6 :)
Turkey Error Analysis: Multiply by Tens
This is a great activity for students to practice identifying which answers are correct when multiplying by tens and which are incorrect. I like for students to practice this skill in partners because they get more experience with multiplying by a ten. The students place thumbs up fingers next to the turkeys who solved the problems correctly and thumbs down fingers next to the turkeys who did not solve the problems correctly.
Thanksgiving Matching Game: Division
In this game, students match up each turkey with the matching card that contains a division equation. The students have to use skip counting, equal groups, or repeated subtraction to solve each card before they can match the two up. This is great practice for students who need extra help with division. Aligns with 3.OA.2 :)
