This is a creative writing project that focuses on the trait of descriptive writing and character traits and physical traits. The activities are as follows:
Brainstorming – This activity asks students to create a turkey character with both strong physical and character traits. Print double sided.
Graphic Organizer - Have students plan out their writing before they start their rough draft. Remind students to focus on their character’s traits to help them solve the problem or challenge they face.
Turkey Decorating - 3 different turkey templates for your students to choose from. Have students decorate the turkey to portray their character in their story. Students can get creative, they can glue on rhinestones, glitter, or even fabric.
Final Draft Paper – For students to display work for a portfolio
Turkey Tracker - Have students turn in their turkey. Make sure they write their name only on the back. Set up the turkeys with numbers displayed under them. Students will read aloud their story. After they have read them aloud students will guess which turkey belongs to the author on their tracking sheet.
Rubrics - Multiple Rubrics to choose from: 6 +1 Trait writing Rubric- Use for over all writing piece / Trait Specific Rubric- A focus on descriptive writing / Presentation Rubric- For art work, and presentation.
