“Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving,”
by Dav Pilkey, is one of my favorite books to read during the weeks before Thanksgiving.
Pilkey’s book is a wonderful adaptation from the holiday classic, “The Night Before Christmas,” by Clement Moore.
I just love to listen to both books’ rhythm and rhyme during the holiday season.
Included are numerous slides discussing the meanings of:
Genre of Narrative Poetry
Lines, Stanzas, and Form
Rhyme, Rhythm, and Meter
Elements of Figurative Language, which include
Similes, Metaphors, Onomatopoeias, and Alliterations
This exciting Thanksgiving PowerPoint Show also includes animated turkeys to keep the students entertained throughout the lesson as you click each page.
Please download my PREVIEW
so you can view a small portion of the slides so you will know just how much fun your students will have.
I also included in the package a print out of the Thanksgiving PowerPoint to serve as anchor charts to display in your classroom during the day or week of the reading of the book, “Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving,” by Dav Pilkey. These displays will help to reinforce the elements of narrative poetry.
Last, the package contains two writing prompts with accompanying worksheets for your students to enjoy for a creative writing endeavor.
