Teach kids coping skills with this fun Thanksgiving/Fall themed matching game. Kids will match up different coping skills and then decide if that is a coping skill that they would be willing to try. The person with the most matches wins the game. Included are 12 different coping strategies and three different versions of the game to accommodate all ages: picture only, picture and written coping strategy, and just written coping strategy. Also included is a Thanksgiving/Fall Cope Cakes coping strategy choice board that kids can take home as a reminder of the skills.
•Discuss the meaning of the word coping skills. Talk about the importance of coping skills and times when they might need to use a coping skill. Explain that during today’s game, they will learn or review 12 coping skills that the can use.
•Decide which version of the game you want to play
•Print cards onto cardstock and laminate for durability (print front/back to include game title.
•Shuffle cards and lie them out in the middle of the players.
•Decide who goes first and player will flit over two cards. If the cards, match, player will say the coping skill, say whether they have tried that coping skill before, and whether they think the coping skill is/would be helpful to them. Player will keep the cards.
•If player does not get a match, player will flip over the two cards and it is the next players turn to go.
•Game ends when all matches have been found. Winner is the player with the most matches.
