This is a comprehensive look at the basic characteristics of each of the 13 colonies. This is perhaps a good "ice-breaker" when beginning a unit on the colonial history of America as it provides a rudimentary understanding of the history of the 13 colonies. I have varied this by asking individual groups to also provide a summary sheet of the presentation to which students will be tested on. Or, another variation is that they provide "slide notes" which their peers complete while listening to the presentation. I'm beginning to prefer the latter method to encourage note-taking skills. Depending upon class size, presentations may take 2-4 class periods.
