Lesson 1: You be the Judge: The English Colonies.
Your students will analyze England's first attempts at creating colonies in America and determine "How successful were the English in the New World?" In this lesson your students will learn how to develop a THESIS and support it with DETAILS. They must make the arguments that prove it using details from the lesson. Includes an enrichment activity and teacher instructions.

Lesson 2: Pilgrims Carousel Activity.
Your students will take a journey as a Pilgrim from Holland to the New World. Along the way they will pick up a piece of their story (3 stories to choose from) and record their information on an organized worksheet. Once the journey is complete, your students will reflect on the difficulties the Pilgrims had to face and summarize in a writing activity. ***Year after year...Always a student favorite***

Lesson 3: Investigating History-The Salem Witch Trials
This two part lesson can be used as a "flipped classroom" lesson or completed as a group. Your students will learn the reasons for the Puritans migrating to Massachusetts and dive in to the make up of Puritan society. In addition, the Investigating History part of the lesson student gain more insight into Puritan life and determine what they believe caused the Salem Witch Trials. They will use historical skills like Contextualization and Causation to support their opinion with facts. The lesson can be summarized in the writing activity.

Lesson 4: King Philip's War
This lesson allows students to look at the causes and effects of King Philip's War which breaks out in New England between the English settlers and Native Americans. While examining the facts, your students will note important information and consider the different perspectives. The enrichment activity allows students to make important connections using information from a word search.

Lesson 5: 13 Colonies Interactive Map
This lesson is great for student devices, but may also be done as a whole group presentation. The interactive map allows students to explore the 13 colonies, identify the 3 sections (New England, Middle, Southern) and make connections between the geographic conditions and the economic development of each group. They will also examine the relationship between the England and the Colonies as they discover the purpose of mercantilism and the triangle trade. Your students will note their findings on a graphic organizer and summarize their thinking with a series of questions and matching activity.

Lesson 6: Founding the 13 Colonies
In this lesson your students will dive deeper into the specifics of why each of the 13 English colonies were founded. Student can navigate through the 13 colonies on their devices, or as a whole class. This lesson comes with FOUR different activities for students to complete using the information including a graphic organizer and a scavenger hunt.

A great creative project to wrap up your Colonies Unit!

In this fun group project your students will use teamwork to create a colony from scratch. They will begin by bidding on the location and end with a beautiful poster board project to showcase. This project is full of surprises (literally). They will trade with one another for resources and adjust to the unexpected.
