Are you using The Five Point Scale for a student in your classroom? When they reach a stress scale above a three, I have my student participate in an activity to break the pattern of stressful behaviour and enable them to concentrate on regulating their emotions. This simple flow chart shows the students what they need to do and what the options are. Used with a timer and a box of the choice activities, and you have yourself a solution to that tricky behaviour. Good luck!
