Grades 1-3 (although everyone will benefit from being reminded of this)
The International Day of Peace is celebrated world-wide in September, but our world, our countries, our cities, our schools, our classrooms, our families could all use the gentle touch of peace far more regularly. We need to learn to get along better. Everyone. Everywhere.
In a word, kindness. What classroom wouldn't benefit from some deliberate work in the area of being kind to one another, being sensitive to one another's feelings, and just simply getting along? These skills are life-skills that, if learned and exercised, will deeply enrich a student's life forever. Life is filled with conflict, stress, and selfishness, and we need to teach our students to be better than that.
This resource is a simple A-Z List of ideas and suggestions to help us get along (can be laminated as a classroom poster).
We created a classroom bulletin board with this list centered in the middle, encircled by our own ideas about being kind and getting along, as well as pictures we found of people showing kindness to one another. This bulletin board served as a constant reminder to work for peace through kindness and gentleness toward our neighbors.
One Arts Infusion Collaborative seeks to create original poetry, music and other creative resources that support and enhance curricular content, celebrate holidays and other special days, stir imaginations, and help build meaningful connections to learning.
