In my class, kindness is key.
We have discussions throughout the year about what it means to show kindness, and we practice kindness daily.
For this activity, I usually begin by brainstorming different words and actions that show kindness, beginning with different letters of the alphabet. Then I give students the task of creating a class book about kindness, with an idea about kindness for each letter of the alphabet. It can be done individually or in partners, whatever is best for your particular class.
I put a picture of my class on the cover of the book, and let each student or pair of students write and decorate the pages of the book, which I bind together once the project is complete.
Another way this can be used is as an individual ongoing project. Each student can have their own book, and the teacher can give a kindness focus for a new letter every week, and students complete one page per week in their kindness books.
There are a lot of possibilities, I hope that you find one that works well for developing kindness in your class. =)
