Sentence completions can be demanding and require critical thinking, the willingness to revisit initial assumptions and the ability to consider words with multiple meanings. These 26 tips will help students focus on the skills they need to successfully solve these kinds of test questions. Here are a few examples:
Eye-catchers are choices that sound or look "right" but are designed to distract you from the correct answer. THINK--what's the logical choice here?
If you can eliminate all the other choices for good reason, the one that is left must be the right answer, even if you don't know what the answer choice means.
There must be at least one clue in the sentence to move you in the direction of the right answer. Find the clue(s).
