Students will be asked to watch a video which will provide a history of the abolitionist movement. An article with a detailed accounting of the movement is also required reading before beginning the webquest. The rise of abolitionism due to the "Second Great Awakening", the call for emancipation, the founding of the American Anti-Slavery Society, the violent backlash from the South, the autobiography of Solomon Northrup, the use of education to further the cause of abolitionism, and the eventual passing of the 13th and 15th amendments, are all topics covered in this activity.
