Product Description

These are designed to be given after students have read a portion of the novel. The novel is divided into five sections: Ch. 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10.

There are also two versions of the Quick Checks. Option A has four multiple choice questions with four options each and Option B has three multiple choice questions with three options. Both have an open-ended question, but Option B will sometimes be less complex. You can easily differentiate for your students.

There is also a Quick Check for evaluating the whole novel at the end with three short answer questions, an Option A (higher level) and Option B (lower level).

Suggested uses:

  • Assign a set of chapters to read by a certain date and have students complete as homework.
  • After reading, assign as a warm-up to begin class.
  • Independent reading practice check ups for students to turn in in their own time (or as pre-determined by you) so they can read at their own pace.
  • Open book assessment after a segment of the book is read.

I typically assign chapters to be read over a 2-3 day period and then begin class with these quick checks. Students are allowed to use their books, but if they haven’t read, it will be difficult for them to answer the questions. This is one way I can ensure that my students do their reading and also that they are practicing comprehension skills.

There is an answer key provided at the end.
