This guided note taking packet asks students to focus on main ideas, themes, and concepts in particular sections of the novel. The novel is broken into 8 sections. Each section is based on an "episode" in the novel with a note taking focus. For example: Chapter 1-7 (Getting to know Huck and Pap), - Think about how Twain is setting the context for the story: setting, characterization of Huck and Pap. This packet allows students to focus their thinking while reading and helps to build independence. It also is a great tool for giving students practice with citing textual evidence. The notes can be a great jumping off point for classroom discussion, activities, and writing.
This is a great way to get away form the chapter study guide questions and to really make students think while reading instead of skimming for answers!
