Includes: 90 slides that discuss in progression the Age of Exploration told from the European perspective.
Provides links to further their reading on each topic. Also provides fun video links on each topic.
I use this with my fifth graders.
The slideshow starts with the Essential Question: What inspired people to explore Asia? We discuss the Dark Ages and then the Rebirth, or Renaissance. We then go into the travels of Marco Polo and connecting his book with the Printing Press. I suggest you do some research.
The book, Polo's book, will spark a movement, people wanting to find the fastest route to Asia to trade for silks and spices as written in Polo's book.
We then discuss Prince Henry of Portugal, Columbus, Cabot, Magellan, Vespucci, and Hudson as they are all trying to get to Asia. There are some slides that contain excerpts from the journal of Columbus as well as the travels of Magellan.
The pictures have captions. If you don't know much about history, use the links I provided to enhance your understanding. I aligned this with the Harcourt Textbook for 5th Grade "The United States" but can be used for anything.
I generate lecture notes that go with the Unit, purchase this and I will email you it for free. Just leave a comment with your email address.
