“The Ant and the Grasshopper” is a well-loved Aesop’s fable that teaches a moral that every elementary student (and adult) needs to learn. In this easy to read readers’ theater script, students get to know Ant and Grasshopper, the problem they face and the lesson that they learn.
Script has 6 parts – this makes it easy to do with a small group as a Close Reading activity. Practicing often allows students to practice fluency and expression. Script is 1 ½ pages long.
You will find separate detailed lesson plans for grades 1, 2, and 3. Lesson plans have CCSS alignment, I can statements, vocabulary suggestions, and reading activities for before, during and after reading. Graphic organizers are included for comprehension lesson. There is a writing extension as well.
This is perfect for a lesson wrap up or for including on a bulletin board or hallway display with student writing! Students can make a simple craft that goes along with the play. Primary writing templates included.
Since the Ant and the Grasshopper are quite different, there is an antonym card game included. You can choose to play this as a Memory-type game, simple matching the cards up or like an “Old Maid” game. Game includes 40 different cards.
