Just find a great story to use with your kids but there isn't a book companion for it? Maybe you found a great companion, but you don't have time to prep all the parts? Have no fear! This NO PREP book companion comes with everything you need start using just about ANY BOOK with your kids right way.
This book companion comes with lots of activities ready to go, all you and your students need to do is PRINT and GO! The activity uses a neutral gumball theme than can be used year round. This packet can be used with student in grade K-7. There are cute, fun pages for younger students and pages with a more mature look for older students.
Page 4: A board game that can be used as general reinforcement.
Page 5: A Do-A-Dot page students can fill in each dot with crayons, markers, or paint dobbers after completing a task.
Page 6-7: Articulation – In each of the gumballs, write a word from the story that has your student’s sound. Have them say the word 10 times, then color the gumball in.
Page 8-9: Synonyms – Have the student write a word from the story in one of the gumballs. In another gumball, write a synonym for the word. Then, color the synonyms pairs the same color.
Page 10-11: Antonyms – Have the student write a word from the story in one of the gumballs. In another gumball, write an antonym for the word. Then, color the synonyms pairs the same color.
Page 12-13: Irregular Past Tense Verbs - Write a present tense word from the story in the gumball. In the popped bubble, write the irregular past tense word from the story.
Page 14: Pronouns - In the gumball, write a character’s name. In the splat, write the correct pronoun you would use to talk about that character. On line, write a sentence about that character using the pronoun.
Page 15: Rhyming Words - Write a word from the story in the gumball. In the popped bubble, write a rhyming word for the word in the gumball.
Page 16: Vocabulary - Write a word from the story in each gumball. Then, write the word’s meaning on the line. Color each gumball when you’re done.
Page 17- 18: WH- Questions - Thinking about the story, students answer basic ‘WH” questions. Page 12 requires students to write their response and would be best for students in grades 2-5. Page 13 allows students to answer the ‘WH’ questions by drawing their response.
Page 19-20: Sequencing/Retelling Minibook - Sequence and retell the story events. Write a sentence and/or draw a picture of each event on a page and staple the pictures in order to tell the story.
Page 21-22: Describing – Students can use the organizer on page 16 to write or draw describing components of a selected item or character from the story. Page 17 allows students to write their descriptions if they are able to do so.
Page 23: Compare and Contrast – Use the Venn diagram to compare and contrast items or characters from the story.
Page 24-26: Story and Chapter Organizer – Use the included story and chapter ( for older students ) organizer to help students sequence the events of the story or chapter into: Beginning, Middle, and End. Students can write ( page 23-24 ) or draw ( page 25 ) the story or chapter events.
Page 27-28: Summarizing – Students can use this page to summarize the story or chapter ( for older students ). They may use the information from the story or chapter organizer to help them.
Page 29-31: Comprehension – Students answer questions asking them to predict events and infer emotions and information about the story they read. Page 29 focuses on students inferring information from the cover image of the book. They can write their responses ( page 28-29 ) or draw them ( page 30 ).
Page 32: Citing Evidence - Read each question. Have students write their response on the line. Make sure they include evidence from the story to support your answer.
Page 33: Social Skills - Have students read each question and think about the story. What would be the expected reactions and solutions in the situations?
