The following six-page study guide film packet is used to accompany the Michel Hazanavicius-directed 2011 mainly silent film, The Artist. It can be used in an English, film studies, or media studies classroom. The first page contains a list of cast and crew and a background and introduction on the film. The second page is a page that allows viewers to jot and take down their own notes. Pages three, four, and five are comprehension questions to guide the viewer on the work's camera movement, cinematography, editing, mise en scene, plot, setting, sociocultural context, sound (sound effects vs. diegetic/nondiegetic sound), story, style, symbolism, and themes. The sixth page contains discussion questions on the work's acting, characterization, costume design, story, style, and themes.
