Product Description
This product includes both a PowerPoint file and a PDF file to provide multiple options for sharing with your class.

This product was made as a lesson to introduce the Associative Property of Addition. It uses basic operations to help students get a concrete understanding. There is a practice page where you can apply harder problems based on what your class needs. This lesson follows an I Do, We Do, You Do format. The lesson starts with a couple of warm ups: A Number of the Day and a Number Talk. Number talks have been proven to be an effective math strategy to build number sense. Directions for Number Talks are included.

After you finish the warm ups, the lesson begins with a mini lesson for the teacher (I Do). The lesson is intended to be used as a guide to spark conversation and not something to just flip through. There are opportunities for your class to practice some examples together (We Do) and a practice sheet for each student to do individually (You Do). I prefer to use the practice sheet as an exit slip to centers. Students that struggle stay at my table for extra practice.

This lesson would be great as an end of the year lesson for 1st Grade, a review lesson for 2nd and 3rd, and as extra practice for 4th grade strugglers.

A Special Thanks to Graphics from the Pond, Hello Fonts, Cara's Clips, and Creative Clips for the clip art and fonts.
