In this hands on lab activity students will get up out of their seats and work to gain a greater understanding of the atom and isotopes. The lab is extremely quick and easy to set up for you as a teacher and can be completed in two class periods depending upon class size and ability.
Required Materials: Very affordable lab! 20 dixie cups along with a bag of black beans and a bag of white beans. As the teacher you will set up 20 different isotope stations. Each isotope is a dixie cup, each cup is filled with protons (black beans) and neutrons (white beans). Super easy to set up and is a tactile way for students to analyze and work with models of isotopes.
This is a great super easy to set up and quick lab activity to follow up the concept of isotpes and reach students who learn better by working on concepts with their hands.
