This activity is great for creative writing! I remember doing a mock newspaper as a kid; I thought it was so fun to pretend like I was in that time period or in the book. Writing from the character's POV is a great way to have a mini lesson on tone and mood. This is a good opportunity to also have your students learn about "Show don't tell." They can write from the character's perspective and say a lot about the character's feelings and thoughts by what they write. This is also a nice opportunity for the students to refer back to the book to look for text evidence and support their findings. The writing style and prose will change depending on the book and topic. Enjoy!
This newspaper writing activity is a great way to have your students use their creativity!
There are 3 newspaper columns to write in:
1. Write a newspaper column as if you are the BFG and use his language and vocabulary to tell everyone about himself.
2. Help Sophie tell her side of the story about how she saved the world from horrible man-eating giants!
3. Write about your wildest dream or create a wild dream to win a lunch date with the BFG himself!
