What a great resource! 36 familiar folk song melodies, professionally notated on the treble staff with color-coded notes to facilitate success with Boomwhackers or bells. This format works well for teachers and students with very little music experience as well as seasoned music teachers and older students. (If your bells, chimes, or boom pipes aren't color-coded, apply colored stickers). These songs may be projected (great for keeping students focused and guiding discussions). They may also be color printed and enlarged if desired. Titles are organized alphabetically and hyperlinked for quick, easy access. Each song includes accompaniment suggestions, such as ostinatos and chord names. Staff note and chord charts are also included. 25 of these melodies are playable with a basic one octave diatonic (no sharps or flats) set of instruments.
This song collection is very useful in both music instruction and classroom integrations (especially language arts) because the tunes are generally familiar and contain predictable phrases and form. I have listed syllables per phrase with each song to help teachers adapt the tunes for piggy-back songs and spelling practice. For example, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" has seven syllables per phrase, so singing a seven-letter spelling word such as "d-e-l-i-g-h-t" to the tune is an enjoyable way to practice. Or a seven-syllable statement such as "Jupiter has many moons" fits the tune of "Twinkle" as well, and would inspire a useful piggy-back song. Integrated activities with these songs will build fluency and recall, and inspire creative writing. (Obviously, these song slides/sheets are helpful with ESL students.)
