Borrelia burgdorferi is the causative agent of Lyme disease. Although Borrelia is a Gram-negative bacteria, it has some unique properties. This presentation describes the structural details of the bacteria that causes Lyme disease as well as how it is transmitted between the tick vector and mammal host and finally it highlights the changes in the surface lipoproteins that the bacteria undertakes when transmitted from tick to mammal and vice-versa.
